Independent guide. We are not affiliated with the Social Security System (SSS). Registration is free — you never need to pay anyone to get an SS number. Follow the steps below on the official SSS website only.
Quick answer: Since July 15, 2020, first-time SSS registration is done online. Apply for your SS number through the SSS website (personal details, contact info, supporting documents), receive your SS number on screen and by email, then create your My.SSS account at member.sss.gov.ph using one of 8 verification options. Your SS number is lifetime — never apply twice.
Part 1: Getting your SS number (first-timers)
This is for anyone who has never had an SSS number: fresh graduates, first-time employees, newly self-employed professionals, and OFWs registering for the first time.
What to prepare
- A valid email address and an active mobile number
- Your basic personal details: full name, date of birth, place of birth, home address, parents’ names, beneficiaries
- A supporting document (birth certificate is the standard) — the portal may ask you to upload a photo or scan
- About 10–15 minutes of uninterrupted time
Step-by-step: SS number application
1. Go to the official SSS website (sss.gov.ph) and start the online registration for new members (look for the SS number application option).
2. Complete the registrant record verification — captcha and the certification that your entries are true and correct.
3. Check your email for the verification link. Click it promptly — the link is valid for 5 calendar days in the current flow.
4. Fill in your basic information, contact details, home address, and purpose of registration.
5. Provide your social status, place of birth, and beneficiary details (father, spouse, children, others).
6. Set up your My.SSS user ID and basic profile information.
7. Review everything carefully, then submit to generate your SS number.
8. Upload a supporting document image if the portal prompts you (optional but helpful — it speeds up verification).
9. Receive your SS number immediately on screen, plus an email confirmation with your SS Number Slip, Transaction Number Slip, and E-1/E-6 form. Save or print these.
Give your new SS number to your employer right away if you are employed — your employer must report your employment through their SSS employer account (usually within the first month) and begin remitting contributions. If you are self-employed, you will generate your own Payment Reference Number (PRN) through My.SSS and pay monthly or quarterly.
Part 2: Creating your My.SSS account (members with an SS number)
The My.SSS portal at member.sss.gov.ph is where you will check contributions, apply for loans, and file benefit claims. Registration requires your existing SS number plus one of 8 verification options:
1. Savings account number — a UBP Quick Card or UMID-ATM savings account number registered with SSS
2. Mobile number registered with SSS
3. UMID card — an activated UMID
4. Employer ID number (or household employer ID) — minus spaces and dashes
5. Paid payment reference number — SBR number or payment receipt transaction number
6. Date of your last loan — for members with an existing loan
7. Transaction number in your Personal Record / UMID application (E-1/E-6) — for those who applied online for an SS number from December 10, 2020 onward
8. Check number of any SSS monthly pension — for pensioner-members
Which option should you pick? Match it to your member type: employed members usually use their employer ID number; voluntary members use a payment reference number or SBR; pensioners use their savings account or pension check number; members with loans use the date of loan. If you registered online recently and have no contributions yet, the E-1/E-6 transaction number is your route.
Step-by-step: My.SSS registration
1. Go to member.sss.gov.ph and click Register below the member login.
2. Tick the certification box and proceed.
3. Enter your personal information exactly as it appears in SSS records.
4. Select your registration preference (one of the 8 options above) and supply the required detail.
5. Complete the captcha, accept the terms, and submit.
6. Review the confirmation page and click Confirm.
7. Check your email for the password-setup link and click it — activation links expire, so do this immediately (My.SSS activation links are typically valid 30 days; always follow the deadline stated in your actual email).
8. Enter the last 6 digits of your CRN/SS number, set your preferred password, then set up two security questions.
Password rules: 8–20 characters with at least one uppercase letter, one digit, and one special character. Use a password you do not reuse elsewhere.
After registration: three things to do
1. Enroll a disbursement account through the Bank Enrollment Module in My.SSS — SSS requires an enrolled bank or e-wallet account before you can receive any benefit claim or loan proceeds.
2. Make your first contribution — coverage and benefit eligibility start from posted contributions, not from registration alone.
3. Download the SSS mobile app and log in with the same credentials for contribution alerts and quick inquiries.

Troubleshooting
“No record found” during My.SSS registration. Your SS number may be newly issued and not yet synced, or your entries do not match SSS records exactly. Wait a day and retry with the exact name format from your E-1/E-6 slip. If it persists, visit a branch.
Verification option keeps failing. Pick a different option from the 8 — for example, if your mobile number is not recognized, try your E-1/E-6 transaction number or a payment reference number instead.
I never received the password-setup email. Check spam and promotions folders first. Confirm you typed the email address correctly. If nothing arrives, restart the registration step — SSS activation links expire, so act immediately this time.
Employer has not reported me after a month. Follow up with your HR or payroll team — under RA 11199, employers must report new hires and remit contributions. Keep payslips as proof and report delinquent employers to SSS.

Is SSS online registration free?
Yes — completely free. Anyone asking you to pay for an SS number is running a scam. Register only on the official SSS website.
I applied for an SS number years ago but never got it. Can I apply again?
No — do not create a second record. Having two SS numbers is a violation. Recover your existing number through the SSS hotline or any branch with a valid ID.
How long does online registration take?
The SS number application itself usually takes 10–15 minutes once your documents are ready. Your number is issued on screen immediately after submission.
My email verification link expired. What now?
You will need to restart that step of the process. This time, complete the email click immediately — do not wait. Use an email address you can access right away.
Can I register if I am unemployed?
Yes. Register as a voluntary member. You will need an SS number first (Part 1), then you can pay voluntary contributions through My.SSS to keep your coverage active.
My name on the portal does not match my ID. Will registration fail?
Likely yes — the system cross-checks your entries against SSS records. Enter your name and birth date exactly as they appear in your SSS record (including "Ma." vs "Maria" and middle names). Repeated guessing will not fix a mismatch; ask SSS to correct the record.
