Quick answer: Check your LTO violations free on the LTMS portal: log in at portal.lto.gov.ph → Dashboard → Violations → toggle between Demerit points, Unsettled Violations, and Violations History. Takes 5–15 minutes. Unsettled violations block license renewal — settle them first.

Step-by-step: check on the LTMS portal
1. Go to portal.lto.gov.ph and click Log in.
2. Sign in with your LTO Client Number (or registered email) and password.
3. On the Dashboard, click Violations.
4. Switch tabs to see each view:
- Demerit points — your current total and what it means for renewal
- Unsettled Violations — fines you still need to pay (these block renewal)
- Violations History — your full record
5. Click Close when done. The check is free of charge.
Keep your LTMS details updated and check regularly — violations you don’t know about still count against your renewal.
The demerit points system, explained
Every traffic violation adds demerit points to your LTO record. What the total means:
| Your record | Consequence |
|---|---|
| 0 points | 10-year license validity on renewal — the reward for clean driving |
| 1–4 points | 5-year validity on renewal |
| 5–9 points | Must complete the Driver Reorientation Course (DRC) before renewing — a 25-question written exam at an LTO Driver Education Center (confirm the current passing score there; published reviewers disagree on whether it is 13 or 20 correct) |
| 10+ points (or the same violation 3 times) | Must complete the DRC plus a theoretical exam before renewing |
| Unsettled fines | Renewal blocked until paid, regardless of points |
The DRC is a pen-and-paper exam administered by LTO Driver Education Centre or Traffic Safety Division personnel, covering road safety, traffic rules, and transportation laws. Passing earns a Certificate of Completion required for your renewal.
Common fines (2026)
| Violation | Typical fine |
|---|---|
| Driving with expired license | ₱3,000 (RA 4136) |
| Anti-distracted driving (RA 10913), 1st offense | ₱5,000 |
| Anti-distracted driving, 2nd offense | ₱10,000 |
| Anti-distracted driving, 3rd offense | ₱15,000 + 3-month suspension |
| Anti-distracted driving, 4th offense | ₱20,000 + revocation |
| Cheating on the LTO exam (RA 10930) | ₱20,000 + revoked license + 2-year bar |
Fine amounts per published 2026 schedules — confirm the current figure for your specific violation before paying.
How to settle violations
1. Identify the violation on LTMS (Violations → Unsettled).
2. Pay through the portal’s payment channels or at the designated office — keep the official receipt.
3. Recheck after payment; lifting of records can lag. If a paid violation still shows after a few days, bring the receipt to the LTO.
Settle before starting any renewal application — the portal’s “Renew” option stays inactive while violations are unsettled.
Troubleshooting
Violation I already paid still shows as unsettled. Bring the official payment receipt to the LTO office — record updates can lag behind payment by days.
Can’t log in to LTMS. Use the portal’s account recovery, or verify your registered email/mobile. Without access you cannot check violations online — visit a branch with a valid ID.
Violation I don’t recognize. Check the Violations History tab for details (date, place, apprehending unit). Contest at the issuing office with evidence if it isn’t yours.
Demerit total looks wrong after renewal. Renewal resets your forward-looking validity; historical records remain. Confirm the current cycle’s count on the portal.

How many demerit points do I have?
Check free on the LTMS portal (Dashboard → Violations → Demerit points). The total decides your next renewal: 0 points = 10-year validity, 1–4 points = 5 years, 5–9 points = you must complete the DRC before renewing, 10+ points or the same violation three times = DRC plus a theoretical exam. Unsettled fines block renewal regardless of points.
Can I check LTO violations by plate number?
On the LTMS portal, violations are tied to your license and LTO Client Number — log in to see them. For plate-based checks of apprehensions (for example NCAP or MMDA "May Huli Ka" captures), use the MMDA's own portal, which queries by plate number. Unsettled MMDA/LGU tickets surface on LTMS as alarms that block renewal.
Is checking violations really free?
Yes — the LTMS portal violation and demerit check costs nothing and takes 5–15 minutes depending on your connection.
Will one minor violation cost me the 10-year license?
Yes. Any recorded demerit points limit your renewal to 5 years. Only a perfectly clean record earns 10.
What is the DRC exam like?
A 25-item multiple-choice exam on road safety, traffic rules, and transportation laws, taken at an LTO Driver Education Center. Published reviewers disagree on the passing score (13 vs 20 correct) — confirm the current requirement at the DEC before you sit it.
Can I contest a violation I didn't commit?
Yes — contest through the LTO office that issued the apprehension, with your evidence. Do not ignore it; uncontested violations stand.
Do MMDA/NCAP violations show on LTMS?
Yes — unsettled MMDA and LGU tickets appear as alarms that block both license renewal and vehicle registration renewal.
How long do demerit points stay on my record?
Points affect your next renewal's validity length. Maintain a clean record afterward to earn back 10-year eligibility on the following cycle.
