What is Pag-IBIG Fund?

Pag-IBIG Fund (the Home Development Mutual Fund, or HDMF) is the Philippine government’s provident savings program for Filipino workers, established under Republic Act No. 9679. Every month, members set aside a small amount from their income. In return, they get three things: a growing savings account that earns annual dividends, access to affordable housing loans, and access to short-term cash loans.

Think of it as three products in one membership:

1. Regular savings — your mandatory monthly contributions, returned with dividends when you retire or your membership matures.

2. Housing loans — some of the lowest long-term home-loan rates in the country.

3. Short-term loans — the Multi-Purpose Loan (MPL) and Calamity Loan for immediate cash needs.

On top of the mandatory program, there is a voluntary add-on called MP2 savings — a 5-year savings program with historically higher dividends (7.12% for 2025).

Who must become a member?

Mandatory members — private-sector employees covered by SSS and government workers covered by GSIS are automatically covered. If you are formally employed in the Philippines, your employer is required to register you and remit both shares every month.

Voluntary members — self-employed professionals and freelancers, non-working spouses, and OFWs — can register on their own and remit directly.

Outdated guides alert. Many older guides still describe Pag-IBIG membership using the retired “Membership Registration Form (MRF).” Pag-IBIG now uses the Member’s Data Form (MDF) and a different online flow. Our membership guide covers the current process.

Quick answers

How much is the Pag-IBIG contribution in 2026?

For employed members: ₱200 deducted from your salary plus ₱200 paid by your employer, ₱400 total per month. This has been the rate since February 2024. Voluntary members declare their own monthly income; the minimum voluntary contribution is ₱100/month.

Where do I register online?

Through Virtual Pag-IBIG on the official website (pagibigfund.gov.ph). You fill out the Member’s Data Form (MDF) online, receive a Registration Tracking Number (RTN), and your permanent MID number is issued after processing — usually within 2–3 working days.

Is Pag-IBIG only for housing?

No. Housing loans are the flagship product, but your membership also gives you short-term cash loans (MPL, Calamity Loan), the optional MP2 savings program, and a provident savings payout at retirement or maturity.

Troubleshooting: Virtual Pag-IBIG problems

OTP not arriving. OTPs are sent to the mobile number or email you registered. Wait 5–10 minutes, check spam folders, and make sure your number can receive SMS. If it never arrives, use the portal’s resend-OTP or account-recovery option, or contact Pag-IBIG through their official hotline — do not create a second account with different details, because mismatched records cause bigger problems later.

Contribution deducted from payslip but not showing in Virtual Pag-IBIG. Posting can take several days depending on the payment channel. Log in, check your Regular Savings record, and compare against your payslip. If a payment is missing after a reasonable period, gather your proof of payment, payment reference number, MID number, date and amount paid, and a transaction screenshot before contacting Pag-IBIG or your HR.

Name mismatch errors (“Ma.” vs “Maria”). Online verification often fails because of encoding differences between what you typed during registration and what is on your ID. Always use the exact name format from your PSA birth certificate.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pag-IBIG MID number and how do I get one?

The MID (Membership ID) is your permanent 12-digit Pag-IBIG account number. You get it by registering online through Virtual Pag-IBIG: complete the Member's Data Form (MDF), save your Registration Tracking Number (RTN), and check the MID inquiry page after 2–3 working days. Full steps are in our membership guide.

How much do I need to contribute to Pag-IBIG per month?

Employed members contribute ₱200/month (deducted from salary) with a matching ₱200 from the employer. Self-employed and voluntary members remit their own contributions, from a minimum of ₱100/month.

Can I withdraw my Pag-IBIG contributions?

Your regular savings are a long-term provident fund — they are paid out at membership maturity (20 years of membership and 240 contributions), retirement at age 60–65, or under specific grounds like permanent disability. You cannot withdraw them like a bank deposit. The MP2 program, by contrast, matures after 5 years.

What is the difference between regular Pag-IBIG savings and MP2?

Regular savings are mandatory and long-term; MP2 is a voluntary 5-year program with historically higher dividends (7.12% vs. 6.62% for 2025). MP2 requires a separate enrollment and a minimum of ₱500 per deposit. See our MP2 guide.

Can OFWs become Pag-IBIG members and apply for loans?

Yes. OFWs can register online, remit contributions from abroad, enroll in MP2, and apply for housing and short-term loans through Virtual Pag-IBIG (a properly authenticated Special Power of Attorney is typically needed for transactions completed in the Philippines).

Is Virtual Pag-IBIG free to use?

Yes. Creating a Virtual Pag-IBIG account is free. You will need your MID number, a working mobile number for OTP verification, and valid IDs for identity verification.
