Marco Santos, author of PH Benefits Guide

Hi — I’m Marco Santos.

I live in Quezon City, and for the last ten years I’ve worked in and around Philippine government paperwork — first as an HR staff handling employee benefits for a BPO company, and later helping friends, family, and eventually strangers online figure out the same confusing processes I used to wrestle with every day.

This site started in a very unglamorous way. In 2023, my cousin needed an NBI clearance for a job abroad and asked me to walk her through the online appointment. I wrote the steps down in a Viber message. She forwarded it to three friends. Those friends forwarded it to their friends. A week later I was answering the same questions — “paano magpa-appointment?”, “magkano ang fee?”, “bakit HIT ang status ko?” — from people I’d never met.

So I started writing everything down properly.

Why I write these guides

Anyone who has dealt with a government office in the Philippines knows the feeling: you arrive at 7 AM, queue for two hours, and then get told you’re missing one document that nobody mentioned on the website. I’ve been that person in the queue. More than once.

The information on official portals is usually correct, but it’s often written in bureaucratic language, spread across five different pages, or — let’s be honest — just plain outdated. I write these guides the way I’d explain things to a friend over coffee: what you actually need to bring, which line to fall in, what to do when something goes wrong, and how much it will really cost.

How I verify everything

Every guide on this site is checked against the official government portal or published agency advisory before it goes live, and re-checked regularly after that. You’ll see a “last verified” date on each article — that’s the date I personally went back through it.

A few rules I follow:

  • If I can’t confirm a fee or requirement from an official source, I say so instead of guessing.
  • When agency sources contradict each other (it happens more than you’d think), I tell you both versions and which one to confirm at the counter.
  • Screenshots on this site are from the actual portals, taken while writing the guide — not stock photos.
  • If a process changes after I publish, I update the article. Old, wrong information is worse than no information.

What this site is — and isn’t

PH Benefits Guide is an independent project. It is not affiliated with the NBI, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, PSA, DFA, LTO, or any government agency. I’m not a lawyer, and nothing here is legal advice — it’s practical guidance based on published rules and real experience.

For anything that could cost you money or delay an application — especially document corrections, name changes, and legal filings — always confirm with the agency itself or a qualified professional. I’ve linked the official portal in every guide so you can do that in one click.

Where I learned this stuff

Honestly? The hard way. Renewing my own driver’s license the week the LTMS portal was glitching. Fixing a misspelled middle name on my PSA birth certificate (three visits, two affidavits, one very patient LCRO clerk in Quezon City). Helping my father claim his Pag-IBIG savings. Filing SSS maternity notifications for officemates back in my HR days.

Every guide here has a story behind it. Most of them start with me getting something wrong first.

Spotted an error?

Found a fee that changed, a portal that moved, or a step that no longer works? I take outdated information personally — when I verify and fix a guide, its last-verified date gets updated the same day. That’s the deal I make with every reader of this site.
