Quick answer: Getting a Philippine passport in 2026 means booking an online appointment at passport.gov.ph, paying ₱950 (regular) or ₱1,200 (expedited), appearing in person with your documents, and waiting 5–12 working days depending on processing type and location. Adults get 10-year validity; minors get 5 years. Walk-ins are not allowed except through the Courtesy Lane (seniors, PWDs, pregnant women, solo parents, minors 7 and below, OFWs).

Fees and processing times (2026)
| Processing | Fee | Metro Manila | Outside NCR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular | ₱950 | 10 working days | 12 working days |
| Expedited | ₱1,200 | 5 working days | 7 working days |
Add ₱50 convenience fee at authorized payment centers, ₱350 penalty for lost or mutilated passports, and roughly ₱150 for courier delivery. Fees are non-refundable. Note: the DFA advised in 2026 that applications from late March onward could take 10–15 working days due to supply-chain issues — treat the table above as targets, not promises.
DFA Courtesy Lane: Who Can Walk In
No online appointment is needed for these categories at DFA consular offices (per the DFA Office of Consular Affairs):
- Senior citizens (60+) — may be accompanied by one adult
- Persons with disabilities — valid PWD ID
- Pregnant women — medical certificate or visibly pregnant
- Solo parents — valid solo parent ID
- Minors 7 years old and below — with parent or legal guardian
- OFWs and seafarers — OWWA e-card, valid employment contract, work visa, or SIRB
- Exceptional and emergency cases
Bring proof of eligibility plus the standard requirements for your application type.
Important rules everyone should know
- Personal appearance is mandatory — no representative can apply for you (a representative with SPA can only claim a released passport).
- Book nothing non-refundable (flights, hotels) until the passport is in your hands. The DFA explicitly disclaims responsibility for travel losses.
- Your passport must be valid well beyond your travel dates — many countries require 6 months of remaining validity.
- Keep photocopies of everything, including your passport’s data page once issued. A copy speeds up replacement if it is ever lost.

Troubleshooting
No available slots at my preferred DFA office. Slots open in batches and get taken fast. Try other DFA offices or TOPS sites, check at off-peak hours, and keep trying — availability changes as people cancel. Never pay a fixer for a slot.
Payment made but appointment not confirmed. Check your email (including spam) for the reference number and appointment packet. If the payment posted but no packet arrived, keep your e-receipt and contact DFA support through the official channels before paying again.
Name mismatch between documents. The DFA follows your PSA birth certificate. If your ID shows a different spelling, fix the discrepancy first — bring supporting documents (or a court order for legal name changes) rather than hoping it passes.
Appointment date passed and I did not show up. You will likely need to book and pay again. Contact DFA support promptly; policies on rebooking vary by office.

Do I need an appointment for DFA passport application?
Yes, except for Courtesy Lane categories and genuine emergencies. Book at passport.gov.ph and pay to confirm your slot.
How long is a Philippine passport valid?
10 years for adults (18+), 5 years for minors. This has been the rule since 2018.
Can someone else apply on my behalf?
No. Personal appearance with biometrics is required by law (RA 11983). An authorized representative with a Special Power of Attorney may only pick up a released passport.
Is the passport fee refundable if I miss my appointment?
Treat fees as non-refundable. Missing your appointment or having documentary problems can mean losing the fee — confirm details before paying.
Where do I track my application?
Use the reference number from your appointment packet on the DFA system, or call the DFA consular hotlines. Courier deliveries come with tracking.
Can I apply at any DFA office?
Yes — choose any consular office or TOPS (Temporary Off-Site Passport Service) site during booking. Processing times are fastest at Metro Manila offices.
Who qualifies for the DFA Courtesy Lane?
Senior citizens (60+), persons with disabilities, pregnant women, solo parents, minors 7 years old and below, OFWs/seafarers, and exceptional or emergency cases. Bring proof of eligibility (e.g., senior citizen ID, PWD ID, solo parent ID, OWWA e-card or employment contract for OFWs) plus your standard application requirements.
Can OFWs walk in without a DFA appointment?
Yes — OFWs and seafarers qualify for the Courtesy Lane at DFA consular offices: no online appointment needed. Bring proof of OFW status (OWWA e-card, valid employment contract, work visa, or SIRB). DFA Aseana also has a dedicated OFW lane for renewals.
